Of the three BD sets currently listed, the scores are specified for each film on the Flicker Alley and BFI. The Divisa has no info though. I know it has the Carl Davis scores, but does it carry any of the others or not? I've searched everywhere and in all Euro languages for confirmation either way, but can't find it...

I can't tell you about the score - I thought it was Carl Davis, but I only know there is only one option (different from David Shepard statement) and it is in linear PCM - sounding quite good.

Thanks for the reply James. I saw the Beaver comparison when it was first posted and re-read it recently. I was just hoping that someone here, perhaps the person who posted the Divisa details, would weigh in and state unequivocally that it only used the Davis scores.

On a separate but related note, I've a few points about the Artificial Eye Chaplin BDs:

I'm away from home for while so can't access my discs, but I'm sure that all of the extras are in HD with PCM audio, not just the First National shorts as noted. If so, it's crucial info for Chaplin collectors, as for most of them it's the first time ever.

I notice that the runtimes for A Woman of Paris, Monsieur Verdoux and Limelight are missing. Are they available? If not, I'll check them out asap.

The Chaplin Revue runtime is missing too: it's 106:29.

A Woman of Paris: audio is listed as stereo, but it's mono.

A King in New York is the very rare, original uncut version and well worth noting. They appear to have used the wrong master by mistake.

The Chaplin ABC is 34:09; the time’s listed as 30:02 on the German Woman of Paris and The Circus DVDs, as well as on the German The Kid, [The Gold Rush isn't noted but it's on there] and Great Dictator BDs. I've watched it and can't see any reason for the discrepancy - unless they chopped a few letters out!
It’s also described as a "documentary" on some of them, but it isn’t. It’s a fast and funny clips compilation of subjects from his films arranged by alphabet: A is for Animal, B is for Bed, C is for Clown, etc.

Changed "documentary" to "clips compilation", but as for the runtime of 34:09 - which disc has that runtime?

I don't have a BD drive in my PC (yet), only a BD player. Is there any other way for me to check whether video is 1080i or 1080P?
In the case of the AE's, the extras are a mixture of video-sourced 2003 documentaries and actual films, so it's possibly a mixture of the two.

• A Woman of Paris runtime: 81:14

• Monsieur Verdoux runtime: 123:57

• Limelight runtime: 137:34

I've got The Chaplin ABC on the AE Gold Rush.

Additionally, despite saying region 1 on their sleeves, all the US Image Entertainment Chaplin DVDs of his films from 1918-1957 are actually region 0. They’re listed here as region 1.

Depends on your BD player. Some have a display screen that says info like video or audio codec. Some have nothing. One of my standalone BD players displays video codec, but my main one doesn't. For that info I rely on my BD-ROM drive and BDinfo, which is the fastest and easiest way to check everything.

Yeah, my BDP shows stuff like A/V codecs but unfortunately doesn't help with 1080i/P. At least I can verify that all the AE extras have either 2.0 stereo or mono PCM audio, depending on the source!

No it doesn't James, but I have several different sets of Chaplin DVDs and BDs with identical SD extras and did quite a few A-B comparisons. I'm projecting on a 104" screen and the difference in quality is glaringly obvious. Until I get a PC BD drive I can't be of any more help I'm afraid. If this thread stays up long enough, perhaps someone else with one or more of the AE discs will supply the necessary info.
