I have this film in the R1 MGM Movie Collection: 6 War Movies: 3 x DVD-10, containing The Bridge at Remagen / Beach Red; Beachhead / Ambush Bay; Mosquito Squadron / 633 Squadron. According to amazon.com, this set was released on October 5, 2010. The Bridge at Remagen is 2.35:1 non-anamorphic.

Re: Bargain thread

I had another look through the sale lists today, to see if I could spot anything in the "at least 40 new titles from the FremantleMedia catalogue" which were added in the extension. Picked up Hit & Miss (Blu) for £4.03 and Rock Follies - Complete Series (DVD) for £5.58. Also ordered Aldwych Farces ...

Re: Selling Unwanted DVDs (and BDs) to MusicMagpie

Just had my lowest ever quote from musicMagpie - 5p for the US 2-disc DVD of Casino Royale!
So I'll keep disc 2 for the Bond Girls Are Forever doc that isn't in the Bond 50 BD set, and keep the case as a spare.

Dutch Blu-ray of The Spiderwick Chronicles £2.08 delivered: http://www.amazon.co.uk/Spiderwick-Chronicles/dp/B002C1BESC/?tag=bulpoirev-21 Thanks, Sam. Can't resist at that price. Arrived today, by airmail! Looks like the real deal: no rating on cover - which is all in English - but disc has UK ...

Re: Bargain thread

Thanks, Sam. I got the same advice on avforums. What a plonker. I think I just assumed that, like some other sites, they'd introduced a delivery charge since my previous order.

Selling Unwanted DVDs (and BDs) to MusicMagpie

There was a time when musicmagpie's lowest price for a DVD was 30p.
I've noticed over recent months that this "floor" price has been steadily dropping, and last night I was quoted their lowest price ever: 19p for Ghosts of Mars.
At that price, it's worth more to me as a good quality standard keep ...

I think I've only listened to 6 commentaries in 12 years. (According to my database, I have 2592 DVDs/BDs with one or more commentaries, and I have 2586 still to listen to. It will never happen.)

Not a great fan (only have 09 & 10, on DVD) but this will go on my wants list. I'll wait for a repackaged edition without the tin box - and a drop in price!

Re: 4:3 anamorphic!

It's only taken me 3 days, but I've finally remembered that the term DVD Beaver coined for putting a black border on all 4 sides of the DVD 4:3 frame was "pictureboxing."
I'm afraid there is much to discuss about this particular comparison. As with the Forbidden Games, The Virgin Spring and La ...

Sort of. They "pillarboxed" certain DVDs of Academy Ratio (approx. 4:3) films, but no anamorphic enhancement!
Intended to combat overscan on CRTs.
Showed a remarkable lack of foresight, as DVD Beaver kept on pointing out!

My cup of tea, but I already have 6 of the 7 titles on DVD or BD. I've managed to avoid Pearl Harbor so far. [Roger Ebert, RIP: "Its centerpiece is 40 minutes of redundant special effects, surrounded by a love story of stunning banality. The film has been directed without grace, vision, or ...

Re: Customs/Royal Mail charges.

Been reading that Barnes & Noble are apparantly customs safe. They mark their packages as books and you don't pay tax on books! They charge $7.49 + $0.99 per item for airmail and their 50% criterion sale is due in July. True for most of the shipments I've had from them. A couple were marked as DVDs ...

Maitresse is now back in stock at £8.99, so I've ordered one. :)

A Zed & Two Noughts isn't my favourite Greenaway either, but I've owned the original BFI DVD since February 2004, and all this discussion prompted me to check out the Beaver comparison. Oh dear: "The first thing to note is that this ...

Sainsbury's have quite a few BFI Blus for £6-99 or £8-99. .... Nice spot, Paul. Unfortunately for me, I topped up on BFI Flipsides and Tatis a few weeks ago, when base.com had them for £7.89, promptly undercut by zoverstocks at £7.19. (And I think they are now £8.25 at amazon.co.uk.) However, I've ...
