AVATAR a rehash of POCAHONTAS?

Post by NewDeep »

We were watching POCAHONTAS yesterday and could not help feeling that Cameron's AVATAR may be rehash/ ripoff/ adaptation of POCAHONTAS!! ;-)

Jim, if you don't like animation, you can enjoy the Pocahontas story in Terence Malick film -- The New World

I watched it and even bought on DVD. Quite a good movie actually. It's not Thin Red Line though.

So if you know The New World, you know Pocahontas more or less.

Just found this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uGOCodaM4UM

Yep, it's got elements of the story of Pocahontas and James Fenimore Cooper's THE LAST OF THE MOHICANS, and even DANCES WITH WOLVES and FERNGULLY - the whole 'noble savage'/colonial thematic territory struck me as very unoriginal, even transposed to an SF setting. Not wanting to sound negative (and definitely not wanting to 'troll'), but I was really unimpressed by AVATAR - although I recognise its technical achievements and also acknowledge that it has plenty of fans. I know that's probably the minority opinion, but it's just my tuppence (or two cents) :)
