Blade Runner DVD Vs Blu-Ray
I was wondering if it would be best to stick to the R2 5 disc UE DVD set or to get the UK 30th AE BR ? As a big fan of the film I'd be interested in people's opinion's on this.

Buying BR disc is pointless as the quality there as pretty low. Upscaled and denoised DVD, nothing more. As the most BR discs these days...

Yeah I generally stick to DVD unless it's something I really like and it either works out cheaper to get the BR set or the DVD is cut but the BR isn't and such like. I only own a couple of BR so far and they are the UK Alien Anthology and the UK Back to the future trilogy.

Re: Blade Runner DVD Vs Blu-Ray
The bd transfer is only marginally better over dvd occasionally during the movie and it could have been much better. TrueHD 5.1 audio is again way better than the dolby 5.1 on the dvd in terms of clarity and depth and perhaps the only real reason to update to bd, if you have a proper audio setup. Otherwise dvd will do just fine.
Work occasionally keeps me off the grid but I'll be around sooner or later.

Agree, though keep in mind the movie was never meant for multichannel audio. Which means that 5.1 track is wrong from a certain perspective. I usually prefer 1.0 or 2.0 when it comes to such old movies. Such tracks usually sound more naturally.TrueHD 5.1 audio is again way better than the dolby 5.1 on the dvd in terms of clarity and depth and perhaps the only real reason to update to bd, if you have a proper audio setup.

Only buy my faves - e.g. SCARFACE is my fave film and as well as the original UK and remastered R1 Platinum dvds I have the excellent UK blu ray
Have to say Arrow's TENEBRE was disappointing with twice going out of sync
Overall I would only buy certain blu rays for extras/uncut reasons - THE INBETWEENERS, HOT FUZZ & THE HEARTBREAK KID for example

Yeah cuts/extended versions would be one reason for me buying anything on Blu-Ray unless of course I can easily get my hands on an uncut version in a different region.

Re: Blade Runner DVD Vs Blu-Ray
It's unfortunate that many new movies are getting the uncut/extended versions more and more exclusively on Blu-Ray with extras, due to increased popularity while the dvd releases only get the standard theatrical versions and practically no extras.
For older movies it's a whole another story when uncut versions can sometimes be exclusive only to an age old dvd in a specific region.

Can't agree more. Putting DC/Ext Cut only on BR is silly and unreasonable. So many collectors still avoid BR (and for a good reason).Jyri_Lehtinen wrote:It's unfortunate that many new movies are getting the uncut/extended versions more and more exclusively on Blu-Ray with extras, due to increased popularity while the dvd releases only get the standard theatrical versions and practically no extras.

I personally prefer DVD coz it's hardly gonna disappoint you. But BR is a whole new game.
When a brand new movie which was mastered in full HD looks like an upscaled/poorly recompressed DVD transfer, that's nasty and you feel yourself cheated.
For the last 5 months I've being buying only porn DVDs which never disappoint.

I did notice how they've been doing that more and more with BR, Jyri. That being said some BR are still cut or just the theatrical version where as others aren't. Jennifer's Body would be one. The last time I checked the UK BR was the theatrical version yet the cut available in the States was unrated.

Re: Blade Runner DVD Vs Blu-Ray
I hate that movie as well.
And yes, there are many cut BR releases, as much as there are cut dvds. It's annoying. Without sites like this one (and movie-censorship/schnittberiche), I'd be completely lost trying to find out which release to buy of movies I'm after to get the best and uncut versions.

Well, any porn is better then watching Megan Fox trying acting. I don't understand how so many men find her sexy and great looking. She freaks me out.Alcide_Herveaux wrote:Lol you was saying about buying porno DVD's for the past 5 months.
