720p or 1080p?
I have discovered that some titles such as Serenity BD and, if I am not mistaken, I Am Legend BD are 720p and not 1080p which I find a bit of a rip-off. Anyone got an opinions of this?

The most Blu-Ray discs have upscaled 720 to 1080 transfers. Not many actually have genuine 1080p video.

Re: 720p or 1080p?
Could this be an inaccuracy with the software you've used perhaps mis-identifying VC-1 encodes as 720p? I've heard of this happening in the past. I own the second UK release so no idea about the first. A look on google only shows a load of piracy sites with 720p down-conversions but nothing about the BR being 720p. If it was a small title, I could see google being not much help, but Serenity is one of those movies with hardcore fans!

I will do thru some of the titles that I own and check to see if they r VC-1 or MPEG-4 and see if what u r saying makes any difference.

Seems ridiculous, I have both those titles and both are definitely 1080p. They're both VC-1, so it's probably due to the aforementioned problem with software giving you a false readout.

Sorry in advance for sort of changing the subject, but are there any blurays released that actually have the video encoded in 720p? Or for that matter in SD? (For clarification, I mean main feature not bonus material)

The Final Destination (the fourth one in the series) BD has a coloured-glasses 3D version in Standard def.

Yes, there are some German box sets with several films on that are 720p.Erik_Haraldsson wrote:Sorry in advance for sort of changing the subject, but are there any blurays released that actually have the video encoded in 720p? Sorry Jim, but this is not true. At all. You don't like Blu-ray, fine, but don't lie.Jim_Mcdonaugh wrote:The most Blu-Ray discs have upscaled 720 to 1080 transfers. Not many actually have genuine 1080p video.

The crucial question is, which software did you use?Steven_Storey wrote:The copy I rented from Lovefilm was 720p I checked it with my computer.
My favourite is BDInfo which gives detailed and accurate information:

I use AnyDVD HD to pull the mt2s file from the BD and then Windows 7 displays the info.Markus_Lang wrote:The crucial question is, which software did you use?Steven_Storey wrote:The copy I rented from Lovefilm was 720p I checked it with my computer.
