Also, both branches of one of the bigger rental franchises in NZ were closing down and had an everything-must-go sale, picked up some ex-rental BDs;

Managed to find a copy of the Grindhouse double-feature BD, box set version with poster cards. For half the price it was when it was released :bday:

and bugger! The Lundgren/Seagal triple feature is German dubbed only. :evil: Glad I only paid £1.27 including postage so nothing wasted really. I'll try to add them to the database this weekend as it is a true mix too. Upconvert, 720p, 1080i. Yikes.

Damn, got fooled by Amazon and Arrow Films. Took advantage of their "Three DVDs and Blu-ray for £20" deal. Bought "The Burbs" bluray but didn't notice it was a new 2015 re-release version (didn't even know there was such a release), that is barebones. When I ordered it it had the same price as the 2014 release so telling difference was not so easy. Now they have slashed the price on this barebones POS. :(

Haven't had much luck with buying discs lately. Ordered a bluray from zoverstocks, got used and abused rental DVD instead. :roll: Should take a break from buying for a year or two and just go trough my unwatched piles :( :evil:

That sucks. I had problems with WowHD for a while, sending me poor-quality Argentinian licensed versions of a bunch of CDs. They're official but the discs are shoddy, thin and bend far too easily and sometimes freeze up during playback, and the paper inserts are all printed on low-quality paper. Now they've also jacked their prices up by about 30% across the board so no more business from me :evil:

Slightly off the topic. This is also happening to audio CDs. Recently, I bought a CD online from a third party seller - The Best of EXODUS that has just been re-stocked after years being out of print. They sent me the Argentinian release :evil:

Several years back, I also bought from them two METALLICA albums: "Ride the Lightning" and "Masters of Puppets" and got those Argentinian editions. They are official releases but the problem with them is that their cover inlays are sometimes rather blurry and the paper they use is sometimes of low-quality, very thin.

Shame about that Ain. Arrow made sure to be clear about it on their official pages that they were releasing a barebones version for supermarkets etc who require a lower price point, so it is a shame they made it to Amazon. Return it, get your refund, and then get the right one! Or wait until one of Arrow's sales on their own site where everything gets cheap.

Ain, the 2015 Universal release has a different cover.

I find it uncommon for a licensor (in this case Universal UK) to release its film on its own just a year after the licensee (in this case Arrow) released it. I believe the reasons for this barebone release are that Universal UK knows this one is selling like hot cakes domestically AND the demand for it is high in the US, which hasn't had any release at all. In addition Universal BDs are region free, so they are sure fans of the film in the US will import.
