I've seen here for Army of Darkness the Viavision 20th Anniversary Edition was included, but there's also a 5-Disc Definitive Collection from the same distributor

If anyone happens to have this set and is willing to share info on it, would be really appreciated.

Re: Army of Darkness The Definitive Collection
It's comparative of the German set listed in the DB, but with the exclusion of the 88 minute "international" version that played Australian cinemas in '93 (and was the first version released on home video here). I picked it up via JB HiFi online & was fairly underwhelmed with the whole thing, tbh. Lucky I only paid around $20 for it!
- First disc (DVD) appears to be sourced from the old Anchor Bay DC DVD, and accordingly looks pretty naff.
- Second disc (BD) seems to be a straight port of the German "director's cut" edition, albeit with new Viavision menus.
- Disc Three (BD), the so-called "theatrical version" is simply the Universal "Screwhead" disc (yes, it's actually the Universal BD!)
- Discs 4 & 5 (DVDs) are the "theatrical" version & "television" version (in really rough 4:3) and I largely haven't bothered watching them as by that stage was feeling a little ripped off.
The special features aren't all that special. A commentary, some picture galleries, some old EPKs (produced at the time to promote the movie), some old interviews, deleted scenes and trailers. If you're capable of playing Region A discs, I'd recommend the Shout Factory set as it makes ours look FAR from "definitive"...

MC, if you have the Australian set, could you list out the specs for us? Would appreciate it.

I'd also appreciate having the info from the Set added into the DBJames-Masaki_Ryan wrote:MC, if you have the Australian set, could you list out the specs for us? Would appreciate it.
Even though the quality of the Definitive Collection TV Version is poor, the DVD is actually in a much better condition compared to other official release'sM_C_Thomason wrote:Discs 4 & 5 (DVDs) are the "theatrical" version & "television" version (in really rough 4:3) and I largely haven't bothered watching them as by that stage was feeling a little ripped off.

Re: Army of Darkness The Definitive Collection
No worries! But you'll have to give me a little time. Where I live is going thru a heatwave at present and I suffer with a chronic (disabling and incurable) illness. Sweltering heat has a real bad effect on me...
But will do my best to get you all the specs up ASAP, hospitalisation notwithstanding...
NB: For John. Though I can see what you're saying with those screenshots you've linked to, you have to take into consideration that a) they've been drastically blown up from source (480 to 1080 and 576 to 1080), b) they're from two different sets of standards (NTSC vs. PAL) and c) ours look quite ugly on both a HD PC monitor and a decent size (50") HDTV. But anyway, try and get onto things later in the day and my usual midday nap...
PS: You can all call me "Mike", I'll let you...
