On the DVD comparison page the US release is declared the winner, but it should be the German. This was a TV documentary (definitely not theatrical anywhere) produced in the mid-'90s and while it looks ok in widescreen, it's clearly not the OAR. What's more, it features extensive clips of recreated silent films (it's about a silent film maker) and while they too are filmed in 1.33:1, in widescreen they're all cropped.
Lastly, the German DVD includes an additional image gallery, not featured on any of the other releases.

Cheers James. I notice the First Run disc claims to to be mono, but it seems pretty unlikely, as every other release is stereo. Can it be checked? Then there's also that slightly odd AR...

The First Run DVD was initially already in the database, and already had the 1.40:1 ratio and mono listed. I double checked the specs, but every review I found just says "2.0", and none specifically states the exact ratio. So, unless someone knows otherwise, will leave it as that.
