Re: What arrived for you today?
Replaced my old 5.1 Pioneer receiver, since the HDMI ports all suddenly stopped working entirely. The cost of repair I was told was approximately 200 dollars - which I thought I should invest in a new receiver instead. Had it for 6 years and was relatively fine with it - there were some issues, and was not perfect in setup.
So for a new receiver I needed these "retro" options that were important to me:
- Component RGB inputs for Wii/old DVD player
- Analog or S-Video input for older video game consoles
- Line out RCA for analog recording to my PC
Pretty much those options are not standard anymore on receivers all going almost entirely HDMI with a few RCA input options.
This Onkyo had 2 component inputs (perfect for me), has analog line out, No S-Video (fine, I have a TV I can plug it into instead), plus Atmos and DTSX capability, 4K upscaling, PHONO input (my last didn't have one, gave up on looking for a phono input since they were harder to come by, but here it is!), Wifi capability, so a lot of options I was not looking for but surprisingly things that were pluses rather than wasted space.
Hooked it up, plugged everything in, is much better than my old 5.1 receiver - now just have to figure out how to get rid of it, along with a few other broken or old electronics piling up in my closet...

Re: What arrived for you today?
A very nice receiver the Onkyo TX-NR series. I know the 656 had an issue with not having DTS:X but that got fixed recently with firmware.

Re: What arrived for you today?
Yes, it was advertised with Atmos and DTSX. Looks like I now have to invest in ceiling speakers! Good think I live on the top floor!

I've never used Onkyo before but may try the TX-NR series. My first choice is Yamaha.James-Masaki_Ryan wrote:Hooked it up, plugged everything in, is much better than my old 5.1 receiver...
