Help! Bootleg or not? To catch a killer.
Hi I'm new to this forum and I need help.
I'm from Sweden and I have a question about To catch a killer on DVD. I've found it the other day in a second hand store and now I wanna know if u guys can help me out if it's a legit copy or a really well done Bootleg.
Apparently it should only been released in snapcase format and not in keep case according to image entertainment, I've tried to contact them but no reply. This information is what I've got from peps here in Sweden. My copy is a keep case so it should be a Bootleg then. But I think it's the real deal, according to dvdcompare it's released in keep case and another site on the web. But on the other side it should be a R1, mines not, but on the website that sold this back in the time it was regionfree.
However I got the R1 logo on the cover and on the disc. I'm confused, it really looks legit. Hope you understand this long text, and sorry if my grammar is bad.
I have some photos in the link below!

Maybe someone of u guys know?
Best regards Michael

Also I've downloaded DVD decrypter and the log says this:
Possible structure protection found!
1 area has been marked as suspect!
Dummy sectors will be inserted where necessary!
So it obviously has some copy protection.

Hi Michael,
it does appear to be a legit release IMO. Whilst it was originally released in a snapper case, Image, like Warner and New Line did do further pressings with keep cases.
Someone on DVD Profiler has marked it as region free, although I can't confirm 100%. Image have certainly be known to release titles region free though, so I don't think you have anything to worry about it.
Does DVD Decrypter allow you to see the disc authoring ID? If so, it should be - 79465479606AFEF0 - TO_CATCH_A_KILLER - Single-Sided - Double-Layered
I would recommend downloading DVD Profiler from http://www.invelos.com (it's free and a great program in general) and adding to collection via disc ID. It will bring up the details of the legit release if it is the correct disc.

Thank you so much for your help I've downloaded the program and it says:
Current disc: TO_CATCH_A_KILLER (79465479606AFEFO)
nothing about single sided or double layered. So does it mean it's legit?

Re: Help! Bootleg or not? To catch a killer.
Thank you for your help I've tried to contact image entertainment but no reply yet. I wonder if the snapper case version has the same idnumber on DVD profiler? Let's play with the thought that it would have been a fake version, then it wouldn't appeared in dvd profiler program, right?

Fake versions can appear in Profiler, but for a title this old, there would be more than a single profile for this title and their isn't. Usually bootlegs are easy to tell as they don't even try to hide the fact.
The id number will be the same for all pressings despite the different packaging. ID number would change if the way the disc is authored changes only (an extra trailer, or a new copyright warning screen would change it).

Re: Help! Bootleg or not? To catch a killer.
This is hard.. Haha I've told about this information to the Swedish people and collector they still can't buy it that it's the real deal. Someone was in contact with image entertainment a while back and according to them in the answer it was only released in snapper. However I don't believe that.
I need hard proof and it's hard to get, image don't respond to my mails. Do you or do you know anyone that have or can get in touch with image? I would love to give some proof that this is a legit copy and that it exist sorry if Im enoying

Only contact is with Image UK via a PR company. Honestly, I wouldn't worry about what other people think. I'm 99.9% sure it is a legitimate release.

Re: Help! Bootleg or not? To catch a killer.
Of course, release dates online are sketchy at best, but nothing strikes me as this being a bootleg in the slightest.

Re: Help! Bootleg or not? To catch a killer.
Sorry for the triple post! You might struggle to get any actual info from Image as they were bought out in 2012 and merged with Acorn to make RLJ (though they still use both the Image and Acorn names).

I would say, if it is a bootleg, then it is a bloody impressive one for a film that will have a very limited small market.

You are right about the struggle to get in contact with Image and Rlj! Several emails posted to the and not a single answer, that's bad :p I really want them to say, you got a legit copy
I'm still looking around for answers haha thanks anyway and if you got any suggestions where I can turn to feel free to write you already helped a lot but if you thought of something new :p
