Jeeves and Wooster UPDATED

Post by Samuel_Scott »

I have few corrections to Jeeves and Wooster series comparisons. From easiest to complex. :)

--------------------------

Jeeves and Wooster: Series 2-4

R2 Scandinavia - Pan Vision

The audio is stereo in all these series. This is what MakeMKV reports:

Track information
Type: Audio
Name: Stereo
Language: English
Codec: Dolby Digital
Channels: 2
Channel layout: stereo
Sample rate: 48000

Also, the DVD covers I have seen say stereo or DD 2.0.

--------------------------

Jeeves and Wooster: Series 4 (TV) (1993) http://dvdcompare.net/comparisons/film.php?fid=6608

R2 Scandinavia - Pan Vision

SERIES 4

DISC TWO

E4 - Arrested In A Night Club (51:52) (51:02)

Small runtime difference, first listed, the second the actual length.

--------------------------

Jeeves and Wooster: Series 1 (TV) (1990) http://dvdcompare.net/comparisons/film.php?fid=1384

R2 Scandinavia - Pan Vision

The reason the episodes seem to be longer is that the DVD's are weirdly manufactured/mastered (the other series discs are fine in the "complete box" I have). Each episode has 2 of these sequences: "part x end title card" followed by black video for some time and then follows "a countdown animation/card of some sort" and finally a "part x start title card". Obviously these are for commercial breaks, but I don't understand why these are in the DVD's. These cells in the DVD PGC's are automatically skipped when the DVD is played as a DVD. One can see the time skipping too. But if one rips these episodes, the skipping doesn't occur. I had to use VobBlanker program to locate these cells and blank them, and make a backup of the disc. Then ripping the episodes with MakeMKV produced proper videos that have lengths identical (+- some seconds) to other releases. I don't know if I'm able to explain this properly, so I took few screenshots from the VobBlanker program, see the attached image.

DISC ONE

- In Court After The Boat Race (54:42) (50:43)
- Bertie Is In Love (54:40) (50:25)
- The Village Sports Day At Twing (53:02) (49:35)

DISC TWO

- How Does Gussie Woo Madeline (52:10) (48:36)
- Will Anatole Return To Brinkley Court (51:47) (49:01)

As earlier, first listed, the second the actual length without the "commercial break sequences".
I work away a lot but I will reply to all PM's within a few days so please have patience!
