I just checked the following two versions:

R0 Spain - La Casa del Cine Paratodos
and
R2 Spain - Manga Films

Both listings say 2.35:1 Anamorphic PAL, but both are slightly windowboxed, as seen below:

It is very minor in the screenshot, but went ahead and updated the Spanish releases.

I figured it has to be mentioned because windowboxing and letterboxing are not the same thing.

It makes we wonder whether the French, German and UK DVDs are windowboxed rather than
letterboxed, too.

I've seen windowboxing that's even slighter than on these two Spanish DVDs.
