Which version of the film is this?
Re: THE PHANTOM OF THE OPERA (1925) with Roy Budd score (R0,
I'm not sure. How do we know which version is which? I'm not knowledgeable in the various versions of Lon Chaney's The Phantom of the Opera.James-Masaki_Ryan wrote:Which version of the film is this?

Re: THE PHANTOM OF THE OPERA (1925) with Roy Budd score FAO
Anyone know of easy things to look out for? I would do a quick search and look at the discs I have myself but an emergency. Have to leave home immediately and won't be online until probably tomorrow.
Re: THE PHANTOM OF THE OPERA (1925) with Roy Budd FAO ANYON
I found a clue when reading the back cover. This DVD was remastered by Cineimage UK in 2013. Perhaps you could contact them.
Here is their link: http://www.cineimage.co.uk/
I'm guessing it's the BFI Photoplay version.

The runtime seems close to the Photoplay version on the BFI DVD. I sent a message to Cineimage and will see if they have an answer.

Re: THE PHANTOM OF THE OPERA (1925) with Roy Budd IN PROGRES
Still waiting for a reply from them - if they will reply at all!
I did a major overhaul of the Blu-ray page with lots of confusion hopefully cleared up. Will do the DVD page next and hopefully a better answer.
I assume this Roy Budd DVD does not have the "Man with a lantern" sequence at the start of the film?

Re: THE PHANTOM OF THE OPERA (1925) with Roy Budd IN PROGRES
Hm, this means this is NOT the BFI backed Photoplay restoration - as that does NOT include the "Man with a lantern" sequence, and left as an extra on the DVD and Blu-ray. With so many versions of the film out there, is this Mishka DVD yet another version?!!Davy_Lee wrote:It does.James-Masaki_Ryan wrote:I assume this Roy Budd DVD does not have the "Man with a lantern" sequence at the start of the film?

Re: THE PHANTOM OF THE OPERA (1925) with Roy Budd IN PROGRES
It seems this is the 1929 reissue from the Blackhawk Films library, but as for the speed and whether there are cuts or differences, I can't say for sure.
I updated the DVD and Blu-ray pages to compile the differences with the versions (without going into detailed depth), and removed any release to say "No Cuts" because the various versions and various restorations from the film's lost and found status have given a mishmash of different versions slightly differing over the years.
Anyway, added, thank you!
