*According to the sleeve, the soundtrack is Dolby Digital 2.0 dual mono (the sleeve of the Artificial Eye Blu-Ray (ASIN B0087PZDV6) also says mono). I couldn’t detect any stereo separation so it’s possible that this is correct (and it would be strange to claim a mono soundtrack for a fairly recent film if it’s not true). However, thedigitalfix.com says the soundtrack is surround. dvdbeaver says the blu-rays are stereo. dvdtalk.com carefully doesn’t commit itself. blu-ray.com incorrectly says 5.1 at the beginning but in the text it also says stereo. The rear cover of the US Blu-Ray is visible at blu-ray.com; it says 2.0 without committing to mono or stereo. I emailed Cinema Guild about their Blu-Ray and they said it was 2.0 surround.
**The date of the short film seems to be uncertain. The title screen at the beginning of the film says “Hotel Magnezit, Tarr Béla, 1980”. But dvdbeaver.com says 1978. https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0144976/ also says 1978, but doesn’t have any release dates to back this up. Many other sources e.g. https://ssl.ofdb.de/view.php?page=person&id=15705 and https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/B%C3%A9la_Tarr also say 1978 but perhaps they are all copying imdb.
Cinema Guild have released this film on DVD as well as Blu-Ray but I couldn’t find a review. http://store.cinemaguild.com/homevideo/ ... /5163.html suggests similar specs to their Blu-Ray.

I'm extremely surprised this film wasn't in our database until now. Added the DVD!

Even modern movies can have mono, and Tarr's films are.As for Cinema Guild saying "surround" they clearly don't know that LPCM cannot have a surround encoding. I highly doubt any editions of the film have a stereo soundtrack, and confirmed that the UK Blu-ray is also mono. As for the short film, decided not to label a date to make things easier.

Hi James, I also suspected that every release would be mono, but couldn't find definitive proof. It shows how unreliable the reviews really are on these details.
Perhaps even more surprising, Sátántangó isn't in the database! It might be a bit cheeky to mention it here, but the dvdbeaver page is http://www.dvdbeaver.com/film2/DVDrevie ... ntango.htm (I don't have this film myself).James-Masaki_Ryan wrote:I'm extremely surprised this film wasn't in our database until now.
