Notes: The original Intro is only available once at the start of disc one, it is left out before every episode which start directly with the Crypkeeper. Furthermore, the original intro is "merged" from 16:9 to 4:3. The transfer of the episodes is ok but not in the same quality as the US edition (I own Season 1 US Edition). All extras on DISC TWO have optional German subtitles but are in English audio only. German title: "Geschichten aus der Gruft".

What do you mean by "Merged"?

Also judging from the runtimes it seems the German release use NTSC to PAL transfers.

It's "warped": 16:9 is shown as 4:3.

NTSC to PAL transfer: Might very well be, if I think about the picture quality.

The old intro - It should be in 4:3. The show is from 1989. I don't understand what the problem is.

Well the intro in the US version is defenitely 16:9. The same intro is 4:3 in the German edition. I'd be surprised if the US edition is the wrong one. I'm talking about this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yu_eXegPAWc

From DVDtalk.com: "In an interesting touch, the series' opening titles, complete with the memorable theme music by Danny Elfman, is used as the opening animation of the DVD, which you can skip using an appropriate "Kill Intro" on-screen option. This is the only time on this DVD you'll see the titles, as the episodes dive in without them. Also interesting is the fact that these titles are in anamorphic widescreen. I don't know if they've ever been seen in this aspect ratio before, considering the show certainly aired in 4:3 format in 1989."

So the German version has this opening title is "warped" from 16:9 to 4:3 which looks pretty awful.

The US DVD used a new intro for the DVD, in 16:9.
But you are saying the old intro on the German DVD is "squeezed" from 16:9 to 4:3. I assume the old intro is already 4:3 because it was from 1989. Are we getting the new and old intros mixed up?

Yes, it seems so. It is the new intro that was on the US DVD that is also the same on the German DVD - but in 4:3.
