Another question, is the 2.0 track mono, stereo, or surround?

It's definately NOT mono. Is there a reliable way of checking if a 2.0 track has surround matrix encoding or just plain stereo? (The DVD covers just say "Dolby Digital 2.0")

PC programs like VLC, Dolby Pro-Logic encoded receivers will detect if the signal is surround or not.

Well, VLC says "Channels: Stereo", but I'm not sure I would call it a reliable test, presumably it just checks the header of the stream.
