Child (The) AKA Kill and Go Hide (Blu-ray) CLOSED

Post by Doug_Stratton »

This concerns Arrows new bluray (part of the American horror project vol 2)

the site here has this info listed:
Notes:
*The menu identifies 1.78:1 options but they are both matted to 1.85:1.

That is not entirely accurate.
one option the 1:78:1 displays as you would expect (though its listed here as 1:85 and I cannot confirm if thats truly correct or if it really is 1:78).
However it also list the 1:37;1 version with the same specs and that is misleading. The 1:37 version is actually full frame open matte
and centered in a (assumed) 1:85 ratio.

Going by how its written here on the site it comes across as if Arrow screwed up the disc and both versions are 1:78

To help further fix this, here is a compare screenshot taken with my iphone from my analog(crt) tv. I did this
because an analog set will truly show the aspect ratio which is set by the blu player only (in this case 4:3 letterboxed),
rather than having even more settings from an HD monitor

Below you can see the 1:37 version firs-t window boxed in a 1:78 or 1:85 ratio. Likewise below that is the 1:78 version of the same frame (well roughly same frame)

The “they” refers to the two items followed by an asterisk: the menu options for the 1.78:1 versions of the feature and trailer which are both actually matted to 1.85:1, not to the open matte version of the feature

Ahh ok then. When I was originally looking at it, it just seemed to appear that it meant both versions since they both use the 1:78 window
