What do you mean by 1.33:1 letterbox? Letterbox is a term used for widescreen ratios.

My mistake. The back of the dvd case plainly states "4:3 letterbox". When I play the disc, the menus themselves are 1.33:1 non-anamorphic and the feature film seems to be in 16:9 non-anamorphic (picture in the middle, thick black bars on all sides). It's very hard for me to see the difference between 1.66:1, 1.78:1 and 1.85:1 (all non-anamorphic). I have an LG OLED55B7V 55" tv.

Is there any program or method I can use to determine exactly the aspect ratio of any given film easier than by going by eye?

Cheers

A ruler to measure height and width is the most accurate way. Also, see here: http://www.dvdcompare.net/forums/phpbb3 ... =9&t=32492

Thanks for the help, I've also read the guide on aspect ratios that you linked.

I've just measured the width and height of the image area with a ruler. Width ~900mm and height ~400mm. The exact screen size on my tv is 1209,6mm x 680,4mm.

Aspect ratio: 900/400 ~ 2,25

Can this calculation be correct or is it more complicated than that? I used a measure tape from IKEA and I don't know how accurate it is.

Let me know what you think of these findings!

So the aspect ratio is non-anamorphic 2.25:1? So black bars on all sides of a widescreen display? Also, this is a German release, but you don't list any German audio or subtitles. Is this correct?

Yes, non-anamorphic 2.25:1. My 16:9 tv screen shows thick black bars on all four sides. That is correct, it is a german release but it is english friendly, they talk english in the movie and no subtitles whatsoever are included.

The menus on the disc are in german though.

I should also mention that the disc is housed in a "hardcase" cover typical of some german releases. It is not oversized like many hardcase releases from, for example, the company "X Rated".

May I ask, which number is printed on the disc itself? 2006950 or 2006864?
