Since there is no PAL speed up for the DVD runtime, is there ghosting or interlacing in the transfer?

I honestly don't know... How do I find that out? Watching the whole movie on the DVD? My eyes are already complaining... ;-)

If you watch frame by frame, you should notice if there's either ghosting (with frames sometimes having a trailing image behind) or combing (an interlacing effect which there are lines that look like hair combs). You're positive the this is not an NTSC disc? I looked at the back cover and it does say "progressive encode" on the DVD which would be impossible with an NTSC to PAL transfer.

You are right about the progressive encode, says so on the backcover: "..., with a progressive encode on the DVD". Then it isn't PAL? Is there a way I can check out if NTSC or PAL with a tool (like Bdinfo for DVD or Gspot which I use occasionally for DVDs)? Could it be that NTSC was the standard in Hungary (like the French with their Secam thing)? But it's a rather new movie from Hungary, so it would surprise me if they release a european release in NTSC... I am really at a lost here because I don't understand the technical aspects enough. Easiest thing to do would be to watch the DVD and give you feedback about it. Could take some time tough ;-). Or maybe I ask the guys from Eureka directly? They were in the past always very responsive (as a customer of theirs).

I asked Eureka now directly. Hope they can clarify it.

How have you been checking if discs were NTSC or PAL in the past? I hope you haven't given us the wrong format in past submissions...

Some players will display resolution on the screen (like Sony players on with the Display button), and if it says "480" it is NTSC, if it says "576" it is PAL. On PCs, going into the disc and looking at individual files, it should say the display information and framerate. (If it says 29.97fps, it is NTSC, if 25 fps it is PAL, etc)

Eureka told me: "The DVD disc was authored as NTSC, we author most of our DVD’s that way to avoid the PAL speedup. The Blu-ray disc should run at 23.976fps which we do to avoid compatibility issues with some players."
