Respectable - The Mary Millington Story (2016)

UK Simply Media DVD

1. soundtrack is English Dolby Digital 2.0 stereo

(It is mostly narration and interviewees speaking, all of which seem to be panned centrally, but some of the background music is stereo. I don't have a definite way of detecting 2.0 surround, but it seems unlikely for this release).

2. For this extra:

"Party Pieces (1974)" restored 8mm (silent) short film featuring Mary (11:06)

it could be rewritten as:

"Party Pieces" (1975) - 8mm silent short (B&W version) featuring Mary Millington (11:06)
(consisting of: text explanation (0:12) + movie (10:54))

(Notes:

a. The correct year for this short is 1975 according to Simon Sheridan's book included in the Mary Millington Blu-ray box set.

b. This extra is incorrectly flagged as anamorphic (should be non-anamorphic 1.33:1).

c. The transfer of this short film has repeated frames: for every 18 source frames, about 7 frames are repeated, turning 18 source frames into 25.
It is probable that the movie was originally shot at 18fps (according to Wikipedia, from the early 1960s onwards this was the standard frame rate for 8mm films), hence frames have been repeated to convert 18fps to 25fps while preserving the correct speed.
The Screenbound Mary Millington Blu-ray box set also includes this short film, but it is a colour version. Also, it does not repeat frames, hence it runs much faster, and has a total runtime of 8:02, with a net runtime of 7:45 at 24fps. This is equivalent to 10:20 at 18fps. This would make it effectively 0:34 shorter than the Simply Media DVD version (net runtime 10:54). I have tried to compare them, which isn't easy due to the different speeds they run at. I noticed the following bits that are on the Simply Media DVD, but not on the Screenbound Blu-ray (timings as per the DVD):

0:15-0:24 after opening title card, where the actors first appear (Screenbound starts later in the shot)

8:56-9:01 action not on Screenbound

10:45-10:51 last bit of action just before end title card (Screenbound fades earlier)

This adds up to about 0:20. There are also several fades to black, after which the next scene starts more quickly on the Screenbound, cutting out some of the black. This probably accounts for about 0:06, bringing the total to about 0:26. The remaining 0:08 difference is perhaps due to various shots being trimmed slightly. I didn't notice any entire shots missing.

d. It seems there is currently no IMDb entry for this short film.)

source: I own it, and the Screenbound Mary Millington Blu-ray box set

I also own this set. I don't know if anyone else is already in the process of submitting details for this, but if not, I can do so, although it might take a few days. Let me know if you want me to do this.
