I'm Not Feeling Myself Tonight (1976)

UK Strike Force Entertainment/Network DVD

1. Extras:

Theatrical Trailer (3:04)
Image Gallery (15 images) (1:02)

2. Runtime is 78:44 PAL equivalent to 82:01

3. Cut status unknown - effectively longer than the original approved version, so might include some footage originally cut by the BBFC.

The original 1975 submitted runtime was 83:31, and the original BBFC approved X certificate runtime after cuts was 81:13.

In 2010 the BBFC approved a submission for distributor 'Sound & Media' with an 18 certificate and a runtime of 82:49, but it seems likely that this refers to this DVD release, as, allowing for rounding errors, it is the sum of the runtimes of: movie + trailer + image gallery (total 82:50 PAL).

Here are the BBFC cinema cuts:

I'M NOT FEELING MYSELF TONIGHT (1975)
Classified ‘X’ for theatrical release in 1975 after the following cuts:
R1 - In opening copulation in road mender's hut, reduce to one brief shot sight of man lying between woman's legs.
R2 - In blue movie sequence, remove all shots of rear sex and cunnilingus.

The VHS print was a heavily edited print, missing around 20m of footage. The original DVD was advertised as the 'complete and uncut version, only previously seen in cinemas' which suggests it features the (cut) cinema print.

I've just checked the DVD for these shots.

It's impossible for me to know for sure exactly what shots were originally cut, but based on the descriptions it appears that these cuts have been reinstated on the DVD.

If I have correctly identified the shots, the first cut section (part of a longer shot) lasts about 12-13 seconds, and the set of shots cut from the "blue movie" sequence add up to roughly 20-25 seconds. This gives a total of about 32-38 seconds (PAL) which is about 33-40 seconds at 24fps.

The total runtime of the DVD is 78:44 PAL equivalent to 82:01, which is 0:48 longer than the original approved runtime (after cuts) of 81:13.

So if this material was previously cut, plus a few extra seconds around the censored material for creative purposes, these timings are about right.

However, this still does not explain the original submitted runtime of 83:31, which suggests that the total original cuts added up to 2:18.
