Just my own small rant on forced subtitles [pay it no heed if you wish]:

It's sad practice that Funimation has taken on since "Hellsing Volume 9&10". Having forced subtitles only on Japanese audio. Instead of optional. It's one of the main reasons why I import some of my anime from elsewhere if they're the distributor. Unless the title is only available through them. However, thanks to brexit buying from the UK is not only cheaper then before, but in the last few times a huge saver. "Outlaw Star" (at the time) was about $70+ American, my UK edition after shipping about $30 and had the same book that comes in the US limited edition.

Though I was hopping Funimation had change its ways after finding "Shin Godzilla" had optional subtitles. But sadly that doesn't seem to be the case. So, I guess movies get optional subtitles and the rest get forced now a days at Funimation. It also technically an insult to those who understand Japanese (or other languages) be forced to have watch these without having the option to remove such unnecessaries.

However, I shall digress this old tried and true opinion of mine, because I know we all better things do. Just had to let out my chest, yet again. Thanks, if you read it.

I wouldn't put blame on Funimation, but the Japanese licensors. There's no reason that Funimation would want to do that.

I'll agree with that. Funimation is just the company that pops up more when I get forced subtitles discs. The only other company that comes to mind is Kraken Releasing aka Section23 Films for "The Return of Godzilla" they used to allow you turn on subtitles and change audio, once the film started, but for this title, no.

If it is getting a little confusing (I want subtitles, yet not forced) I'm at least half deaf in my left ear. So, I like having subtitles just incase I didn't hear something right, but also so I'm not waking everyone in the middle of the night. As well as the fun differences in dub audio vs. translated subtitles can be interesting at times for foreign films.

Some anime companies don't want their Japanese fans importing their works for a fraction of the cost (a season of Japanese anime boxset on Blu-ray can be over 100 dollars), so they tend to request foreign licencors to have foreign language subtitles forced on the Japanese dialogue, have Japanese credits replaced.

Yeah, that sort of makes sense. When my sister (https://www.amazon.com/A-C-Harrah/e/B00 ... 357&sr=8-1) went to collage there, until that Earthquake, she had to leave (despite not being nowhere near the nuclear plant) because it cost an arm and a leg to stay there without a scholarship. But it also reminds me of topic I once read on the blu-ray forum; where some people were complaining about how despite US and Japan being both region A. That the Godzilla (Kraken Releasing) blu-rays did not play on Japanese players. So I guess it now all falls into place.
