Kiss of Death [USA] [Twilight Time] UPDATED

Post by Matt_Bailey »

The audio is listed on here as 2.0 mono and is actually 2.0 stereo.

Are you certain; have you tried matrixing it out to all surround speakers using Dolby Pro Logic or DTS Neo:6? I've only ever known this film to be in mono and am sure it was recorded that way. I'd be pleasantly surprised if even the isolated score was in stereo, though I don't own the TT BD to check.

While I'm here though, the TT Amazon ad link has died, so replace the ASIN with B06VVD2TYN. You could also add a footnote that it's been released in France by ESC Editions. The Spanish Llamentol BD-R is obviously a bootleg.

Yes, that's why I posted. It kicked all the dialog to the rear speakers instead of collapsing it to the center.

You're absolutely right, Matt, and I see the 2005 US Fox DVD has a 2.0 stereo option but it's apparently a latter-day remix, almost certainly by Chace Audio. I have both the US and UK BFI DVDs but digging them out right now is a problem. It's been years since I watched either but this reviewer doesn't think much of the remix.

Like colorization, alternate aspect ratios, etc, an option to the original is fine but in this case it shouldn't have been the only track. Looks like a rare boo-boo for Twilight Time but I can't find a single review that's picked up on it. That's what's so great about this site: we go deeper!

Incidentally, the TT rear sleeve says "Audio: DTS-HD MA 2.0 / DTS-HD MA 1.0". I take it that's incorrect, re the isolated score?

The French BD sleeve states "dual mono" so hopefully that's correct.

There are no 1.0 tracks on the disc.

There are no 1.0 tracks on any TT disc, to my knowledge, even though they're frequently listed on the back. Whether the 2.0 tracks on other discs correctly collapse to mono I've not yet tested; I've gone through and tagged every single 2.0 track on my media server and I'll be going through them over the next little while to make sure they're correctly marked.

I'd be interested to know if any other TTs have fudged audio. Is KoD's isolated score also in stereo? If so, it's probably rechanneled mono; it's extremely unlikely separate stems would survive from that far back to facilitate a proper stereo mix.

Not sure, I didn't rip the isolated score.

The Hot Rock is correct dual mono.

Don't you own the KoD BD to check the score?

Yeah but I'd have to dig the disc out, rather than just being able to check my media server.

The isolated score also kicks to the rears in Pro Logic.

Interesting. I assume there's no info anywhere in the notes or packaging about the soundtrack mix and whether or not the isolated score is a remix? Every so often, this BD can be had quite cheaply; I might pick it up one day, to add to the mountain.

It's worth adding that the isolated score is also in stereo.
