Little Shop of Horrors 1960 R2 UK UPDATED

R2 United Kingdom - Eureka Video
A couple of minor things:
- The disc is encoded for R2 and R4
- The duration is 71:49
Also, there are a couple of glitches in the audio on this release e.g. at 0:19 here https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MRga7RcOLQw there is a glitch between "skid row" and "my beat". I have a VHS that I taped from a TV broadcast that does not have this glitch, and it is not present on other youtube versions e.g. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3Vzv3guQiA4 . I think it has a couple more possible similar glitches but I haven't checked those against the VHS/youtube.

Re: Little Shop of Horrors 1960 R2 UK
How long exactly is the trivia extra?
Re: Little Shop of Horrors 1960 R2 UK FAO baggish
In fact the Trivia and the Synopsis are separate, and they are 0:38 each. They run on repeat until they are stopped. They are both scrolling text as already described.
I bought the Eureka because I thought it might be a bit better than some of the other UK R2s that are available (e.g. Elstree Hill, Dark Vision, GMVS), so I was a bit disappointed by the audio glitches. Actually apart from the glitches the audio quality isn't too bad. Oh well. Actually I just noticed that the rear of the Dark Vision claims "original aspect ratio" so it might be worth trying.

Thorough stuff, baggish, though you could go broke (and crazy!) once you start buying and comparing PD versions of any film because they're nearly always just varying shades of crap. Generally best to wait until a recognised label puts out a decent version. But in this case they already have: though in the wrong AR, Legend's BD and DVD are the only ones worthy of consideration.
This needs adding to the DVD comparison: http://www.dvdbeaver.com/film/dvdreview ... review.htm
The Eureka DVD is most commonly available as a Mail on Sunday giveaway; in fact, in the UK it appears to outnumber every other DVD combined.
Also, I'd bet money on all those other labels mentioned above being region 0, not 2. And the Dark Vision rear just says, "Original Aspect Ratio"; as they're no experts, it'll be 1.33:1 too - or at least non-anamorphic.

Which DVD? They all seem to be in our database.Brent_Reid wrote:This needs adding to the DVD comparison: http://www.dvdbeaver.com/film/dvdreview ... review.htm
Updated.
Re: Little Shop of Horrors 1960 R2 UK UPDATED
Yep, all true, and in the early days Eureka were pretty much in the PD category as well. The Eureka release was even reviewed in Sight and Sound, but in a way that suggests the reviewer looked at the menus and didn't go any further... (in the days before S&S DVD/BD reviews had separate Film and Disc sections). I agree, Eureka-as-newspaper-giveway is very common, Eureka-as-Eureka is a bit less common but I guess it's only the packaging that's different. The screen shots on the rear of the Dark Vision are in widescreen format but maybe they are cropped to look nice on the cover (the spelling in the blurb doesn't give one much confidence...).Brent_Reid wrote:Thorough stuff, baggish, though you could go broke (and crazy!) once you start buying and comparing PD versions of any film because they're nearly always just varying shades of crap. Reckon you'll go for the Legend(s)? Zooming in either the DVD or BD to get a very roughly correct widescreen crop will still yield a better image than any other current release.baggish wrote:Yep, all true...Brent_Reid wrote:Thorough stuff, baggish...
Re: Little Shop of Horrors 1960 R2 UK UPDATED
Hi Brent, I think it's probably unlikely unless I'm lucky enough to find it cheap. I've watched the film now and while it was a much better film than I was expecting, it's not really one for numerous repeated viewings. I was expecting something on the Plan 9 level, but it's clear the Corman crew were professionals who knew what they were doing and the script was actually pretty good. Cheers!

The DVDBeaver link was already there, prior to the update.

Whoops: I must've accidentally clicked on the 1986 version comparison. Oh well, you're welcome to my non-contribution!
