Masters of Horror - Search results NO UPDATE

Post by Christian_Bütikofer »

It is very hard to find the individual movies from the "Masters of Horror" Series. For example: If you try to look up "The Screwfly Solution" you only get this listing: http://www.dvdcompare.net/comparisons/f ... ?fid=13973.

However, we also have the Blu-ray from Germany in the database: http://www.dvdcompare.net/comparisons/f ... ?fid=47468

This goes for all the movies from this series: Blu-ray entries are not to be found if looked up individually by title.

Just search under "Masters of Horror" and you'll find all the titles.

I know. But this is inconsistent and confusing: You get partial DVD results if you look those up by title as I wrote (for example "Screwfly Solution"). But no Blu-ray results. My suggestion: Either you do it one way (like you write by looking for "Master of Horror" only) or you allow those titles to be found by individual names like it is right now for the DVDs (example "Screwfly Solution").

If a user is looking for one title of this anthology and only gets one result for the DVD by looking up an individual title, he has to assume that there is no Blu-ray listed. This is confusing.

When the series was first released on DVD they were released as individual episodes so they were listed as separate.
When the series hit Blu-ray it was released as volumes with multiple episodes and also full season sets. Rather than making individual listings per episodes, it was made as seasons.

We are not going to make entries for each and every episode at this point. As for DVDs we will not combine the listings and deleting the individual pages, since this may cause broken links from other places. So we will leave it the way it is.

If anyone is looking for an individual episode, just type "Masters of Horror" to save the hassle.

Might be good at some point to amalgamate all the individual DVDs into either season 1 or 2 ... at some point.

If we do that and delete all the existing individual DVD entries and make a new season entries, it will cause broken links for wherever they are used. Not only our site but from forums and blogs elsewhere.

I agree, James; as useful as they are, it's annoying that so many like Caps-a-holic, DVDBeaver, and lately, the BBFC, have screwed around with their URLs so often. It's difficult to accurately predict changing site and content management needs, so switching URLs is necessary sometimes. But that's what 301 redirects were invented for, and would solve the search discrepancy here. But I suspect it would take up too much valuable time.

IMDB as well, and we've been having to update a lot of our own listings because of their updates.
