Oliver! (Blu-ray) (1968) ADDED

Post by Brent_Reid »

The UK BD (ASIN B00BAQZFHG) is identical to the listed Dutch disc but the correct sub options are:

Arabic, Castilian Spanish, Danish, Dutch, English, English HoH, Finnish, French, German, Greek, Hebrew, Hindi, Hungarian, Italian, Japanese, Norwegian, Polish, Portuguese and Swedish

It's also been released in Australia, Germany (B00BLE7F8Y), Japan, Spain (B07LB193NP) and Italy (B07Z761RXC). Also Denmark, Finland, Norway and Sweden but they could be grouped together as Scandinavia.

In an odd, ahem, twist, I can't find any reference to the BD having been separately released in Holland, so that listing should be deleted!

The US Sony BD listing says it's Non-Anamorphic and NTSC.

The Twilight Time BD's isolated score would be better renamed as a "Music and effects track", then this explanatory footnote could be deleted:
"The isolated score also features sound effects throughout. This is because the the film's separate music stems have not survived."

Footnote typo: "Do not the US Sony release includes an exclusive featurette."

Thanks, Brent. I have corrected the subtitles on the Holland release and added the additional releases. I could find a review & UPC for the Holland release, so I'm leaving it there. I've corrected the US Sony disc entry also.
As for the Twilight Time isolated score, I'm mostly leaving it as is, but have updated the wording a little bit. I own that disc, and the sound effects can only be heard during sections of the isolated score where there is music; when there is no music, the track is silent. I own many Twilight Time releases and when they label something a "music & effects" track instead of an "isolated score," there are always sound effects throughout the entire track, even when there is no music. They label this one an "isolated score" so I'm going to stick with that distinction, but keep the text notes.

Thank you, Vincent. I defer to your more accurate, updated description of the score; I only own the UK BD.

I don't doubt you re the Dutch BD but could you share the link please? I searched for ages the other night and couldn't even find a photo, so in the end concluded any reviews were referring to imports of any of the other BDs now listed.

Review
Sales listing on bol.com

Since you actually own the UK disc, maybe you could check something. I found a complete BDInfo scan on the European discs last night, and it actually shows 3 English subtitle tracks. One will be the English subtitles, another the English HoH subtitles, but I can't figure out why the scan shows a 3rd English subtitle track.

Ha - I checked Bol.com first but their search function's crap. On looking again, "Oliver! Blu-ray" doesn't come up until the penultimate search results page so I missed it!

Have checked my BD: there are 20 sets of subs but no quite ordered like the BDInfo scan indicates. First come two English options then it skips straight to Arabic (third). They then proceed as per the scan, except the final three are Spanish (including onscreen text, #18), Spanish (without onscreen text, #19) and then Swedish last (#20). Most odd!
