The Gold Rush (1925) DVD UPDATED

Post by Brent_Reid »

The Image DVD is lacking info. The audio is actually 2.0 mono (the rear sleeve is wrong), the feature runtime is 72:06 and its box set (with City Lights, Modern Times and the Great Dictator) ASIN is B00004Y2QL.The extras are:

Galleries:
- "The Lucky Strike: A Play In Two Scenes"
- Production Stills
- Production Summary
1994 interview with Lita Grey Chaplin (14:54)

There are a bunch of copy/paste errors in the Cuts section, where the runtimes of the longer 1925 and shorter 1942 versions have been transposed.

The Oz Force Video DVD is a bootleg copied from the US Image DVD. It dates from back when Force, in conjunction with Eureka, were routinely pirating official releases of silents and early talkies. Only the US and France got official DVDs ahead of the worldwide Warner sets.

Thanks, James, but you've left the " text notes" wording on the play. The galleries are (obviously) all photos.

But the interview is also part of the "Gallery"? Please be specific on what the extras are in situations like this/

Technically, yes. This follows the mastering method of a lot of early DVDs where the film, followed by the extras, are all in the same stream. But for clarity, configure the extras the way they're now written above.
