Disney Blu-ray Correction UPDATED

Post by Paul_Rudoff »

I just went through a bunch of my Disney Blu-rays and found a few errors in your database related to a few of them. Rather than create separate posts for each one - and go against your 3-post policy, I'm putting them all in this one post. Most of them are pretty small, though the largest one is at the end. This should be it for a while. - Paul

================================================================

Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs (Blu-ray) (1937)
http://www.dvdcompare.net/comparisons/f ... ?fid=15262

* Blu-ray A America - Walt Disney Studios Home Entertainment - Signature Collection

The "DisneyView" option also includes an "introduction" that isn't listed on the site, likely because it is easily missed:

-- Message From Toby Bluth (0:44) - Select "Play Movie With Disneyview" from the "Play Movie" menu, then "About Toby Bluth", and finally under the large amount of biography text is the option to play the message from the late animator.

This info also applies to the release listed below, which also has the "DisneyView" option, though it's not listed on the site.

* Blu-ray A America - Walt Disney Studios Home Entertainment - Diamond Edition

Little Mermaid II (The): Return to the Sea (2000)

* R1 America - Walt Disney Studios Home Entertainment - Special Edition

Aspect ratio is incorrectly listed as 1.66:1, when it is really 1.78:1.

Yes, the back of the case says 1.66:1...

https://www.spookcentral.tk/temp/4DVDCo ... SEDVD2.jpg

...but as these screenshots prove, it's actually 1.78:1. There's a tiny sliver of blackness at the bottom, but none on the other three sides. If it were 1.66:1, there would be blackness on the left and right, of course.

When this anamorphic widescreen "Special Edition" DVD came out in 2008, I compared it to the original 4:3 letterbox DVD from 2000 to see how Disney took the 1.66:1 image and changed it 1.78:1. Based on a quick comparison, I found that Disney simply cropped a little off the top and bottom. As much as I wanted to keep the original DVD for the complete picture, I hate 4:3 letterbox (and 16:9 pillarbox on DVDs), so I gave it away in favor of the anamorphic DVD. Now I have the film on Blu-ray/DVD, where it's still the same slightly cropped 1.78:1 image :-(

Little Mermaid (The) (1989)
http://www.dvdcompare.net/comparisons/film.php?fid=480

* R1 America - Walt Disney Studios Home Entertainment - Platinum Edition

The easter egg info is wrong. All are on Disc 2, not Disc 1. Also, all can be found on the Backstage Disney, Treasures Untold: The Making of The Little Mermaid menu. None need to be accessed from DVD-ROM.

-- Directors Caricature Drawings (1:06) - Backstage Disney, Treasures Untold: The Making of The Little Mermaid, highlight "Act I: Renaissance Men", press LEFT to reveal a hidden fork, press ENTER.

-- Live-Action Reference (1:42) - Backstage Disney, Treasures Untold: The Making of The Little Mermaid, highlight "Act IV: Setting Sail", press RIGHT to reveal a hidden pipe, press ENTER.

-- The Little Mermaid Handshake (0:26) - Backstage Disney, Treasures Untold: The Making of The Little Mermaid, highlight "Act V: A Mermaid Sings", press RIGHT to reveal a hidden anchor, press ENTER.

Aladdin (1992)
http://www.dvdcompare.net/comparisons/film.php?fid=6110

* R1 America - Walt Disney Studios Home Entertainment - Special Edition Gift Set [2004]

This is the Special/Platinum Edition. "Platinum" on the front top, "Special" on the front middle and also on the spine.

I don't know why you only have it listed as a Gift Set, even though it is available as a standalone release in a standard two-disc case with DVD Guide booklet and slipcover with a front that opens.

The info on the site for the galleries contains one incorrect image count, and a lot of missing galleries. First, the correction; it should read this:

-- Background & Color Keys (15 images)

The list of Character Development galleries only includes the six on the first page. There a two more screens of additional character galleries. The full list is as follows:

--- Aladdin (15 images)
--- Jasmine (18 images)
--- Genie (26 imges)
--- Jafar (23 images)
--- Iago (5 images)
--- Abu (9 images)
--- Sultan (9 images)
--- Rajah (8 images)
--- The Lamp (5 images)
--- Narrator (12 images)
--- Carpet (5 images)
--- Miscellaneous Characters: Guards & Thieves (9 images)
--- Miscellaneous Characters: Marketplace (15 images)
--- Deleted Characters: Aladdin's Parents (9 images)
--- Deleted Characters: Executioner (6 images)
--- Model Sheets (9 images)

For reference, here are some screenshots I quickly photographed off the TV screen:

https://www.spookcentral.tk/temp/4DVDCo ... llery2.jpg
https://www.spookcentral.tk/temp/4DVDCo ... llery3.jpg

Finally, for the Theme Parks Gallery, the way it is currently listed implies that there are two subsections,"Disneyland Paris" (3 images) and "Tokyo DisneySea" (9 images). Not only are several parks missing from that list, but there are NO SUBSECTIONS. All 22 images are listed in one single gallery, with headers at the top noting which park the images on that screen came from. I would suggest listing it like this:

-- Publicity Gallery
--- Theme Parks (22 images) (3 for Disneyland, 4 for Disneyworld, 3 for Walt Disney World, 3 for Disneyland Paris, 9 for Tokyo DisneySea)

The breakdown is optional, of course, as the point is to show that it's one gallery with 22 images in it.

One at a time, please.
What is the runtime for the film for the Snow White Signature Edition?
Now I have the film on Blu-ray/DVD, where it's still the same slightly cropped 1.78:1 image :-(
Which edition of "The Little Mermaid 2" do you have on Blu-ray? If it's not in our database, please let us know the specs when you get the chance.
I don't know why you only have it listed as a Gift Set, even though it is available as a standalone release in a standard two-disc case with DVD Guide booklet and slipcover with a front that opens.
Link to the standard edition of Aladdin, please?

For the Signature Edition Blu-ray, the film runs 1:23:12.

I have the U.S. Two-Movie set:
The Little Mermaid II and Ariel's Beginning 2-Movie Collection (Blu-ray + 2-Disc DVD)

I just checked the database and, surprisingly, it's not listed. I'll type up the specs for you later.
