2. Extras (disc 2) - I have added extra information (as it appears in the disc onscreen menu) to clarify which movie each extra relates to:

3. Notes - I have added extra information, and written it in a similar way to the notes for Mexican Gothic: The Films of Carlos Enrique Taboada box set:

All 3 movies are scanned and restored in 4K from their original negatives.
Extras are in Spanish with optional English subtitles.
Comes with a reversible cover.
The first 5,000 units ordered directly from Vinegar Syndrome and select indie retailers includes a spot gloss hard slipcase/slipcover combo designed by Richard Hilliard and Dani Manning and a 40-page perfect bound book with essays by Erica Schultz and Alexandra Heller-Nicholas.


(This box set is similar in style to: Mexican Gothic: The Films of Carlos Enrique Taboada box set, which was released around the same time.

The 40 page book is only available in the Limited Edition of 5000 (with the slipcover and slipcase). It is housed in the outer slipcase, which is wider than normal in order to accommodate it (so perhaps it should be called a slipbox, but that's a whole different discussion!).

According to the vinegar syndrome site, it doesn't seem to be worded that way, as the slipcase is what is limited.

I have checked the Vinegar Syndrome website again, and yes, the wording is different compared with the wording for the Mexican Gothic box set:

However, if you scan through the pictures, you can see at least 2 pictures with the book along with the slipcover and slipcase. One of these pictures is also the overview picture on:

From these, you can tell that the book is housed in the outer slipcase. Without the slipcover and slipcase, there is simply nowhere to place the book, as it is too tall, too wide, and probably too thick to fit inside the keep case. Plus, being similar in style to the Mexican Gothic box set, they would almost certainly be sold in the same way as each other.

I'm not saying I would stake my life on it, but it seems highly unlikely that the book would be shipped loose along with the keep case.

Housed inside the keep case would be my guess. Unless there's someone that has the standard edition to verify if there's a book or not,we 'll leave it as it is.

But like I said, it wouldn't fit in the keep case. I do own the box set, so I know this, but even if you don't take my word for it, you can see for yourself in the photos.

Maybe the standard edition has a revised booklet that would fit in the keep case. I'm just going with what the specs say on the site. If there is confirmation otherwise, it can be updated.

UPDATE:

I have received a reply to an email I sent to Vinegar Syndrome, and they confirm that only the Limited Edition (now sold out on their site), includes the booklet. They wrote:

"The booklet is only included with the limited edition for Villages of the Damned. We try to update the products as best we can so I will see if we can have this one updated."

I don't know if they have updated the product page yet (I am writing this using a computer at a library, which blocks their site completely), but the email is confirmation anyway.
