The Bridge on the River Kwai (1957) UPDATED

Post by Brent_Reid »

There's a discussion on BD.com about the fact the 2019 UK UHD disc reissue (minus the slipcover and digital code) has been repressed, adding the original mono audio.

I decided to plough through that thread to the end and discovered more, all confirmed by checking photos on eBay. There are now three distinct UHD-BDs:

2017 60th Anniversary Editions, as listed.

US and UK 60th Anniversary Edition 2019 repress. Both are minus the slipcover and digital code but with added mono.

The US rear sleeve still states "2017 Layout and Design" but the code 49631ORN, on the bottom right, has been replaced with 49631LTR. The UK rear simply states "2019 Layout and Design".

The US repress only has one ASIN, B07X5126X4, which is already linked. The UK reissue has a separate ASIN, B07X5126X4, but the Amazon listing confusingly has the same date as the 2017 issue. Obviously, in both cases buyers need to check carefully before ordering.

The 2019 repress only has HDR10; Dolby Vision is only on the 65th Anniversary Editions, which also omit the previous discs' extras.

The UK 65th Anniversary Edition (Zaavi-only, as noted) can be added; it's identical to the US/Canadian/Italian discs.

The 2019 reissue has mono but no Dolby Vision? Is there a BDinfo scan of this particular edition to confirm?

Not that I recall but multiple posters in that thread discuss it in great detail, mentioning file dates, etc. They then go on to discuss possible triple-dipping, in order to get a release with mono and Dolby Vision.

It is confusing but you've done a good job of laying it out! However, you missed off the extras on the 2019 UK release as it's a reissue of the 60th Anniversary disc. I reckon it'd be best to describe it as such, as you have with the US listing.

I strongly suspect the Canadian disc was also reissued in 2019 but can't find any rear sleeve pics to see if the code changed.

Fixed the UK. Also fixed a spelling error that was on the 60th releases.
