Ponderings about additional comparison details

Post by Jyri_Lehtinen »

I've been pondering a long time whether the EAN / UPC code or alternatively the release date of the actual dvd / bd release could be added as one of the comparison listing details for each release, at least in the new and future comparisons when available. It would make locating a specific release much easier especially for those ones which have multiple releases in one region.

Would this be too drastic an addition to the comparison details?

We have an EAN section in the admin pages but we use it for when there are definate differences only and the UPC is the only way we can differentiate. This is because there are too many reprints with new UPCs but the same discs and even new releases can get many UPCs. At least in the UK, supermarkets get different UPCs on different titles even though they are otherwise identical.
I work away a lot but I will reply to all PM's within a few days so please have patience!

That makes sense. I've been using various dvd collection softwares for years and most of them (like DVD Profiler and My Movies I'm most familiar with in recent times..) feature the option to add movies to your collection by typing the EAN/UPC or read the barcode by a barcode scanner. Nearly everytime I add something, at least 2 results of the same movie pop up with the same code, differentiated only by the date or place of release.

How about a thumbnail sized image of the front cover next to each release then? You can see differences of the artwork even with small pictures.

Actually, individual thumbnails are not a bad idea...
