Simply from the extras menu, like everything else.

New 4K master has been created for the first film, with a few tweaks here and there for the colors etc. We'll probably see some new releases in this year.

I kinda doubt it'll look any better. After all, it's a very low budget flick...

Had a theatrical reissue for the 10th anniversary. Maybe not much better, but "Saw" never had a really great or definitive Blu-ray release so far.

At least it'll look a bit different:

"And one of the things I tried to do with this re-release, I went back and supervised the 4K transfer. I got to do a lot of tweaks I didn’t have the chance to do back then because we didn’t have the money or the time. I didn’t want to change it too much, I didn’t want to change the look too much. But I just wanted to fix things here and there, “that’s too dark and that’s too bright."

I'll definitely be upgrading that, the Aussie release of Saw is an mpeg-2 encode with standard DTS audio and no extras. The second and third films also need a remaster in this territory, they're both mpeg-2 and only have DTS High Resolution audio. Luckily every other film in the series received a respectable BD treatment.

All French BDs are of excellent quality. All contain longest versions (DC/Unrated), all have HD-Master Audio 6.1/7.1 and VC-1/AVC transfers. I just don't see how anyone can improve quailty...

I've no idea how to obtain French discs to be honest, i'm assuming you'd need to speak French to order them from a French webstore or something. Most of the ones I get are Australian simply due to convenience, I also have a fair few from the UK and a handful from US and Hong Kong. But I recently confirmed my BD player to be locked to region B so I have to be careful with those :(

As for Saw, I'll just wait for the remasters to get a local release. The 2nd and 3rd ones aren't too bad since they at least have HD audio and a decent selection of extras. It's mainly the DVD-level audio and complete lack of extras on the first one that makes me want to replace it with a new version.

Just use Amazon.fr

You can use the same Amazon account to order from any Amazon. Use Google Chrome to translate.

One problem there.. Amazon's postage rates to NZ are bloody ridiculous  Maybe i'd use Amazon if I need to order something I really want that's completely unavailable in any shape or form from any other source ;)

As for Jim's speculation on whether a 4K scan can improve the quality of Saw.. it seems to have been the only film in the series that was fully analog 35mm. All the others were filmed on 35mm but the theatrical release was based on a 2K digital intermediate, so the existing BDs of those are probably as good as they'll ever look. The first one should gain a fair bit of organic detail from the new transfer though 8)

James-Masaki_Ryan wrote:Same question with the French and German DVDs: how do you access the easter eggs?
The French DVD has those Easter Eggs as simple extras AFAIK, and the German disc:

Easter Eggs
To access the Easter Egg in the Saw section:
Select SAW - Behind the Scenes and hit right arrow on your RC to see SAW In 60 Take 1.
Select Der Jigsaw-Report and hit left arrow on your RC to see SAW In 60 Take 2.
Select Alternative Szene (Storyboard) and hit right arrow on your RC to see SAW In 60 Take 3.
The first print has both German and English audio tracks to be out of sync.
To access the Easter Eggs in the Saw II section:
You have to navigate with your RC in the specific order during the "Play Me" game. It may take a long time though.
When you win the "Play Me" game, those Short Horror Stories will become available.

Although you labeled this as the "theatrical cut", there seems to be about 10 minutes of footage missing, is that right?

Also the Italian and Spain releases, which version of the film is it?
