Terminator (The) (1984) - original sound effects UPDATED

Post by Ewan_McMahon »

I thought it might be wise to add an extra note in the notes section on both the following pages:
http://www.dvdcompare.net/comparisons/film.php?fid=982
http://www.dvdcompare.net/comparisons/film.php?fid=9453
Saying that only country media releases that include the MONO SOUNDTRACK are those that include the ORIGINAL 1984 SOUND-EFFECTS - otherwise (I think) all soundtracks (5.1 surround etc) are the remix soundtracks with heavily altered sound-effects >>> most the altered-sound effects are gun-shots and explosions (amongst a few other things) that occur on and off throughout the whole film...

(I sort of made a thread about something similar concerning altered sound-effects some time ago but I don't think I was very clear and I think it got overlooked for this movies comparison pages). There are loads of websites and stuff concerning these altered sound-effects (like on blu-ray.com forum http://forum.blu-ray.com/showthread.php?t=188813 and plenty of other online websites found with google search criteria like terminator + remix +/or soundtrack etc).

Also for example, compare the two youtube video links below of at least one scene and listen to the sound of the gun-shots, and you can clearly hear the differences:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=U5MlmtHgpf8 (original sound-effects)
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3kF1TsOkJeA (remix sound-effects)

The DVD comparison page of Terminator currently has a note in the notes section saying some country releases include the mono-soundtrack for purists, but neither page really mentions the sound-effects themselves are actually quite different when comparing the original mono-soundtrack to (probably) all the others. And this is quite important because a lot of current country media releases DVD+BLURAY lack the original mono soundtrack/sound-effects entirely!

I don't think the DVD listing needs any update. Says that the mono track is available on a few releases. Updated the BD page to say none have the mono track.

Well really I meant was not just add a note about the lack of mono track on BluRay, but maybe add a note about how there are significant differences between the original and remix sound-effects.

But no matter, that's up to you guys - it was just an idea, I won't keep on about it...

Adding notes on each title that gets an audio remix would be nearly half the database, so no we won't be updating it further.
