You confirmed the discs have Japanese HoH subtitles? Because the Japanese package makes no mention of that, only standard Japanese subtitles for the English track.

Hi James, when accessing the disc via the 'hidden' Japanese route, there are two Japanese subtitle options, along with the English subtitles. I'll admit, I don't read Japanese and assumed one was HoH, although it could well have related to the Sing-along option. As I'm unsure, feel free to leave out.

I would assume they are subtitles for the commentary. Don’t a few languages have subs for the commentary?

Ok, when entering via the Japanese menu on the regular Blu-ray, there is a commentary with Japanese subtitles for it. However, accessing the 3D Blu-ray via the hidden Japanese menu, I found no commentary, although there is an additional Japanese subtitle option that, when selected, only displays Japanese text during the songs - Sing-along subtitles, I guess. Hope that makes sense? Man, this has been a complicated one!

It's most likely for when one plays this option; "Isolated music score and effects track in Dolby Digital 1.0"

Technically they are not "sing-along" subtitles since sing-along subtitles caption the songs, not translating them. These are subtitles for the dub tracks, as with most musicals only the dialogue portions are subtitled while the songs are left in their original language. There are exceptions like Disney movies and others, but this is the case the most part.

Thanks James. Glad it was sorted out in the end.

A couple of things though, for the 3D Blu-ray the Swedish subtitles appear to be missing, and the German and Italian should be classed as HoH, as the menu states "für hörgeschädigte" (for the hearing impaired) and "per non udenti" (for the deaf) respectively.

I'm gaining a better understanding, thanks to you guys, and now realise the 'German' and 'Italian' subtitles I originally listed relate to the commentary track. I was originally listing them from the language options during playback, whereas the language selections on the menu screen are clearer, certainly on this release. Apologies for any confusion. :)
