Taras Bulba (1962) BD UPDATED

Post by Brent_Reid »

Caps / Beaver

Suggested footnote, omitting the bracketed text:

The original primary audio was 6-track stereo on 70mm prints and mono on 35mm prints. Kino were supplied with a master with 2.0 stereo audio but mistakenly folded it down to mono when mastering their BD. [They did the same with The Emerald Forest.]

There are also BDs from France (BQHL Éditions), Germany (Koch Media), and Australia (MGM), all of which have 2.0 stereo audio.

Updated, though the German and French releases also have mono, not stereo audio.

That's odd, as various forum posters claim they're stereo. They seem quite credible as some of the DVDs are stereo too, and from the same source. I'm tempted to pick up one of the BDs myself to check but am not sufficiently interested enough in the film to pony up the £20-odd they're all currently going for.

Thank you. Hopefully Koch will eventually release a cheaper keep-cased edition, then I'll check it out!
