Out of the Blue (1980)
Blu-ray America - Severin Films [2022 Release]
Both Blu-rays in this set are region ALL.

I own the 4K UHD set, which also includes 2 Blu-rays, which I assume are the same as in the 2 disc Blu-ray release.

Re: Out of the Blue (1980) Blu-ray FAO Darrel
Unfortunately I don't (yet) have a 4K player, so I cannot check the UHD.
-
Note that the Severin UHD + 2 Blu-ray set incorrectly states region A on the back of the cover.
-
Also, as far as I can tell, for both the Severin UHD + 2 Blu-ray set and the Severin 2 Blu-ray set, there is only one slipcover available.
It is reversible (i.e. has alternate artwork on the back). It may be exclusive to items bought on the Severin website, but I am not sure.
(The "Notes" sections for the entries for both of these items seem to be incorrect regarding this, as they imply that there are two different slipcovers available.)
-
For the first Severin Blu-ray, times are as follows:
movie total runtime 95:57
consisting of:
opening text introduction 1:26
movie 93:18
closing restoration credits 1:13
(the above all constitute a single item on the disc, so the player reports a runtime of 95:57)
According to the closing restoration credits, it is a 2019 restoration of a 4K scan from the original 35mm negative.
The extras on the first Blu-ray all have the correct runtimes.
-
For the second Severin Blu-ray, I have made a few additions and corrections, including:
spelling correction of: Mark DesRochers
reordering of interviews to match order on disc
a few minor changes to the text so that the extras match those on the BFI entry
addition of individual runtimes and "Play All" options
But note that the "Play All" option for "Me & Dennis" 2021 interviews actually groups the interviews into 3 sections (with chapters in each section), with runtimes as follows:
Ethan Hawke + Jessica Hundley (69:02)
Richard Linklater (14:49)
Philippe Mora + Lawrence Schiller + Julian Schnabel (65:24)
So overall it should be as follows, for both the 2 Blu-ray set (DISC TWO) and the UHD + 2 Blu-ray set (DISC THREE):
Remembering Out of the Blue" 2021 interviews (with Play All) (240:22)
- Bob Akestar, second assistant director (18:13)
- Patti Allen, production coordinator (15:17)
- Pointed Sticks & John Anderson, punk band & actor (20:47)
- Mark DesRochers, location manager (23:58)
- Doris Dyck, editor (16:05)
- Sharon Farrell, actress (13:31)
- Julia Frittaion, unit publicist & post-production assistant (29:00)
- John Holbrook, camera operator (19:17)
- Tom Lavin, composer (22:36)
- Christine Wilson, script supervisor (18:48)
- Leonard Yakir, writer (42:45)
"Me & Dennis" 2021 interviews (with Play All) (69:02 + 14:49 + 65:24)
- Ethan Hawke, actor & filmmaker (43:52)
- Jessica Hundley, author & journalist (25:09)
- Richard Linklater, filmmaker (14:49)
- Philippe Mora, filmmaker (19:37)
- Lawrence Schiller, filmmaker & photojournalist (29:04)
- Julian Schnabel, filmmaker & artist (16:41)
"Straight to Hell: Alex Cox Recalls Out of the Blue" 2021 interview (13:16)
"Dealing with Demons: Brian Cox on Acting and Dennis Hopper" 2022 interview (20:33)
2020 AFI Q&A with 4K Restoration Producers John Alan Simon and Elizabeth Karr (22:14)
---
Apparently the BFI Blu-ray is also from a 4K scan, probably the same one as for the Severin releases, although the BFI set does not include a UHD disc.
