The notes for the second US edition about an automatic upscale also applies to the first release. My player never shows the picture non-anamorphic (I configured it that it shows all content in the original format) but in a format like 2.35:1. It's not 1.78:1 or 1.85.1 either.
Notes: Pan-and-scan file flag will automatically upscale the image to 16:9 on spec players.

Thanks. Companies during the early days of DVD did not seem to do that consistently - unfortunately, the Fox DVD of STRANGE DAYS was not given that treatment - so it is always a pleasant surprise with some of the titles that still haven not been remastered.
