The Film

For reviews on the movie from various critics, we recommend visiting HERE.*** Romantic comedy starring Matthew McConaughey as celebrity photographer and confirmed bachelor Connor Meda, who finds himself being haunted by the ghosts of his various former girlfriends when he attends the wedding of his younger brother Paul (Breckin Meyer). The ghosts of girlfriends past (Emma Stone), present (Noureen DeWulf) and future take him on a revealing odyssey through his romantic history, ultimately forcing him to see the truth about his treatment of the women in his life.

Entertainment in Video bring the romantic comedy "Ghosts of Girlfriends Past" to dvd in the United Kingdom, in the original aspect ratio of 2.35:1, which has been anamorphically enhanced. Although the picture quality is good, it certainly doesn't shine when compared to other similarly budgeted studio movies. The film is purposely quite dark in places, and with that comes some slightly more noticeable than usual compression artefacts. They are minor, but they are unfortunately quite obvious. There is also a surprising amount of edge enhancement that I wasn't really expecting to see. Detail of items that are close-up to the camera, and in faces and clothing, is very good, but this doesn't really push out to the background items which are slightly lacking. The colours are generally strong, especially the various darker reds that are present throughout. Facial tones look somewhat brighter than they should judging by the colour levels of the rest of the feature. If you want to show friends what a mediocre transfer looks like before blowing them away with some reference quality material, this is the disc with which to do it. The disc is PAL, and runs 96:29.
Audio
There are two audio options available on the disc: - English Dolby Digital 5.1 - English Dolby Digital 2.0 Stereo I viewed the movie with the 5.1 track, and although it was certainly adequate, it was underwhelming. Of course, romantic comedies are not really known for their use of the surrounds or LFE, and "Ghosts of Girlfriends Past" does nothing to change that. Surrounds are used mainly for the score, and the occasional effect (the wedding cake scene), but other than that it's rather uneventful and heavily focuses on the front speakers - typical for a film that's dialogue driven. I noticed no dropouts or scratches. Optional subtitles are available for the hard of hearing in English.
