OVERALL: Draw
The US Fox Special Edition (2008) has both 70mm and 35mm versions with lengthy extras.
Note the German "Masterpieces of Cinema #3" release has the 70mm version and the German version, but lacks the featurettes found on the US release.
The French release has exclusive extras, though it only has the 70mm version of the film.
Versions:
The film was simultaneously shot in two versions: (a) a widescreen version (2.10:1) filmed in Fox's 70mm 'Grandeur' process, and (b) the more widely-seen 'flat' version shot in 35mm.
The widescreen version of the film was almost impossible to see until Fox's 2008 DVD release of the film, which includes both the standard 35mm version and the widescreen 70mm version.
Some of the original release prints are said to have a running time of 158mins, although this longer version of the film is believed to no longer be in existence.
Typical of the period before dubbing, the studio shot German, Italian and Spanish versions simultaneously with different casts and crews. -
