Highlander II AKA Highlander II: The Quickening (1990)
It's a kind of magic.Director: Russell Mulcahy
OVERALL: Draw-
OVERALL: Draw
US Theatrical Cut:
- The French TF1 release is the only one offering this version in its original 2.35:1 aspect ratio and with an anamorphic transfer, but do note it has forced French subtitles.
European Theatrical Cut:
- The Italian release is the only one known, but do note it is cut by 2:00, has only Italian soundtracks and isn't English friendly.
1996 "Renegade Version":
- The US Republic Pictures release has a proper NTSC transfer with extras, though it is non-anamorphic.
2004 "Renegade Version":
- The US Lionsgate SE has a DTS-ES track with the best extras, The Portuguese release has the same extras, with a standard DTS track.
The following versions of the film are known:
- The US theatrical version (~90min),
- The European theatrical version (~100min).
- The 1996 Renegade version (~110min),
- The 2004 Renegade version (~110min).
*The European theatrical version includes a fairy tale ending.
*The 1996 Renegade version restores ~20min of footage and features a different sequence of events, providing continuity lacking from the theatrical release. These changes along with the extra footage allow the movie to follow the plot of the original Highlander movie.
A comparison between the US and Renegade version is available on Movie Censorship.
*The 2004 Renegade version removes a scene taking place when Connor and Louise are going back to shield control after they go above the shield in the mountains. This version of the movie cuts directly from them driving the truck in to Connor's final fight with general Katana. In the Renegade version, you see a guard patrolling and Louise distracts him then Connor knocks him out. A couple of guards open fire on them and they run away, then it cuts to Connor walking in to the final fight.
