OVERALL: R0
The Criterion version is restored/remastered and contains extras. However, it is only available as a part of the box-set "Eisenstein: The Sound Years".
Avoid the Australian edition, which is black & white throughout the film (no colour sequence at end of film).
The Date of the Film: We have shown the year as 1946, the year that the film was completed. Prior to its general release, a special showing was given at the Kremlin for Stalin, the result of which was the instant banning of the film. The film was not eventually shown in public until 1958. (Thanks to Ian Morris, michaeldvd.com, for this information.) -
