- R1 Criterion has both Japanese and US versions with new transfers and extras.
- R2 UK release has the original Japanese version, optional subtitles, and good extras.
- For the purists, R4 "50th Anniversary Edition" has both Japanese (with English subtitles) and US versions of the film.
- R1 Classic Media release also has both versions of the film plus decent extras.
Note, that the Japanese R2 release has the original version of the film, and has additional extra features, but NO English subtitles at all.
Do note, that all English 5.1 tracks on the US (Simitar / Sony), and R4 "50th Anniversary Edition" releases are "phony" and sound really bad. Avoid them, and use "2.0 Mono".
General notes: OAR is 4:3. The original Japanese version "Gojira", released in 1954, was 96 minutes long, directed by Ishirô Honda, and did not contain Raymond Burr. Terry Morse shot additional footage for the US version in 1956, named "Godzilla , King of the Monsters!". -
