OVERALL: Draw
The Vinegar Syndrome release has the Unrated Version in the OAR of 2.35:1 with 5.1 sound and the best extras while the Warner/Paramount releases feature the theatrical version in the director's approved ratio of 2.10:1.
GENERAL NOTES:
Paramount has released the film with an aspect ratio of 2.10:1; this is the director's approved ratio. Although originally shot in a ratio of 2.35:1, this Blu-ray/DVD transfer is the ratio in which Philip Noyce intended the audience to see the film.
The film was released theatrically - after extensive reshoots that changed the opening and ending among other things - and on cassette with an R-rating and a running time of 106 minutes. The film was issued on cassette again a year later in an unrated version that ran a minute longer. The DVD and Vinegar Sybdrome 4K/Blu-ray releases of the film utilized the unrated version while the Warner/Paramount Blu-ray releases have the R-rated version. -
