The 2017 two disc edition has the first three versions and the 2019 hybrid version contains the fourth.
GENERAL NOTES:
This film exists in three principal versions:
- the British version with a score by Stanley Black (~84 minutes at 24fps/~81 minutes at 25fps);
- the U.S. version with a score by Jimmy McHugh and Pete Rugolo which reinstates the climactic color shot which the BBFC ordered removed from the British version (~85 minutes at 24fps/~82 minutes at 25fps);
- the continental version with a score by Stanley Black and has alternate nude takes of some scenes (~85 minutes at 24fps/~82 minutes at 25fps).
The current HD master for the British version was incorrectly converted from 1080i50 to 1080p24 resulting in a shorter running time for that version on the U.S. releases.
While the Severin Films limited edition Blu-ray featured the continental version on a bonus DVD as a reconstruction using the British version as the base and footage from a French DVD of the continental version, the Severin website exclusive Blu-ray featured the extras from that bonus DVD but the feature presentation was a hybrid version which uses the U.S. version transfer as its basis but contains some of the alternate material found in the continental version (~85 minutes).
Thanks to Darrel_Griffin for discovering the faulty conversion of the British version HD master. -
