OVERALL: Draw
The 2022 German edition has English-friendly cuts of both films and the Franco interview from the earlier DVD.
The US Kino Lorber release has the French version of the film with an exclusive commentary.
GENERAL NOTES:
There are two versions of the film:
- 74 minute French version (unclothed); this version is also the one used internationally with English credits.
- 85 minute Spanish version (clothed); has an additional subplot with Lina Romay that was not part of the original shoot.
Also available from:
- Divisa (Spain) -
CUTS:
- R0 Limited Edition Germany- Wicked-Vision Media - No cuts - French version (70:54 PAL)
- R0 Greece- Dark Side - Yes - Spanish clothed version (81:49 PAL)
- R1 America- Image Entertainment - No cuts - Spanish version (85:20 NTSC)
- R1 America- Kino Lorber - No cuts - French version (73:59 NTSC), including a nine-second Kino Lorber logo at the start.
-
R2 Germany- X-Rated Kult DVD - Yes - Spanish clothed version (81:48 PAL) (German-release has approx. 0:23 of additional music with black screen after the end credits compared to the UK-release), and not the French version.
More info about the Spanish release(s) (from Brad Stevens / "Mondo Erotico" web site): "The older Spanish (Major) video release runs 81:51 min, and removes all the nudity (partly through cutting, but mostly by using alternate "clothed takes"). The notorious scene in which a man and a woman are whipped until they fall onto spikes in a non-nude variant. The Spanish version also adds a complete subplot in which Lina Romay plays a peasant called Esmeralda. There are 5 extra scenes, with a total running time of 17:29 min. These scenes were apparently filmed some time after the original release. The forest through which Lina Romay walks at the beginning of "Female Vampire" can also be glimpsed in this new footage, so these re-shoots were probably done during the filming of "Female Vampire". The newer Spanish (Divisa) version runs 81:07 min, and is identical to the previous release, except for the omission of a single 0:44 shot of Romay (time: 51:14). - R2 Jess Franco Double Bill Volume 1 United Kingdom- Tartan Video - No cuts - Spanish clothed version (81:25 PAL)
