OVERALL: R1
For additional extras.
There are two versions of this film:
(1.) The original theatrical version.
(2.) The altered version for most home video versions. Due to a lawsuit made by artist Frederick Hart against Warner Bros. after the film's initial theatrical run, regarding the sculpture in Milton's penthouse being too identical to Hart's own sculpture "Ex Nihilo", the appearance of the sculpture was altered visually in all the scenes where it was seen and this altered version of the film has since been available in most home media releases, except for an initial run of unaltered U.S. VHS and DVD rental copies in early 1998.
Unaltered U.S. DVD copies can be identified by a LITTLE RED BANNER on the BACK cover stating "The large white sculpture of human forms on the wall of John Milton's penthouse in "The Devil's Advocate" is not connected in any way and was not endorsed by the sculptor Frederick Hart or the Washington National Cathedral, joint copyright owners of the Cathedral sculpture "Ex Nihilo" in Washington D.C.". -
