OVERALL: Draw
The US & Canada 10th Anniversary Editions have identical extras with the "Remembering Memento" Christopher Nolan solo interview and all 3 commentary endings. Note the South Korean release has the same extras but is missing the "Memento Mori" short story and the status of the commentary endings is currently unconfirmed.
The UK Pathe release includes all 3 commentary endings and has some exclusive extras, including a picture-in-picture track with the script, a Guy Pearce interview, and an exclusive audio recording of author Jonathan Nolan reading his short story "Memento Mori" that inspired the film. Other releases that include this story only have text screens (or in a booklet for the UK 101 Limited Edition).
The US Samuel Goldwyn Films and French releases include a long Q&A with Christopher Nolan & Guillermo del Toro. Note this extra is titled "Remembering Memento," but is a different extra than the "Remembering Memento" interview on the Anniversary Editions.
The UK 101 Films Limited Edition has lengthy extras including an exclusive commentary and exclusive interviews.
The US/Canada Samuel Goldwyn Films, German, and UK 101 releases are confirmed to only include one commentary ending, but each has been confirmed as a different ending.
The German and UK releases include the Chronological Version. The German release has it in HD, but it is missing the opening & closing credits. The UK releases have the complete film, but presented in SD PAL.
Versions:
There are 3 known version of the film, all running 113 minutes:
- The original Theatrical Version
- The Special Edition
- The Chronological Version
When the film was re-released as a Special Edition DVD in 2002, director Christopher Nolan replaced an insert shot of a photograph of Jimmy & Natalie roughly 38:20 into the film with a different photograph in order to intentionally create a continuity error, as an Easter Egg for people looking for holes in the narrative.
The Chronological Version, per its name, reorders scenes in chronological order. The opening credits, which play in reverse in the other versions and show a Polaroid un-developing, come at the end of this version and play out in forward motion to show the photo developing. -
