Re: What did you watch today?
Maybe we should have started a new thread?
1. Les 3 Frères, Le Retour (Broadcast)
Follow-up of the French comedy "Les 3 Frères". Not as good as the first movie, from which several jokes/situations are taken, but this is still enjoyable if you're a fan of "Les Inconnus" - 6/10.
2. Macbeth (Polanski) (US Blu)
First viewing... well this is really brilliant! The first part is rather conventional, but the second one gets more gruesome with a "Polanski" touch. I must admit, I had quite some difficulties with all that old-English vocabulary, but overall this is an awesome adaptation of Macbeth - 9/10.
3. The Exorcist (Theatrical) (US Blu)
An absolute classic, even today this is still a fascinating film and one of the best "horror" films ever made (but it is so much more than that). Perfect construction, "myhtical" touch thanks to the historical background, torturted characters… words are lacking - 10/10.

Re: What did you watch today?
I hadn't seen it for at least ten years myself and remembered loving it a lot more than I did yesterday. I had it marked as a 9/10 elsewhere, and changed it down.Sculder wrote:Just recently bought it from Zavvi, went Steelbook crazy with their fire sale and end of the year sale. Re: What did you watch today?
Speed (First viewing on US BD) - 7.5/10
The tension is still there despite losing its steam after 40 minutes. The bus leaping off a 50-foot unfinished section of a bridge to land on the other side of it is one of the most extreme suspension-of-disbelief scenes I've ever seen in a movie.
Day of the Cobra (First viewing on German BD) - 6.5/10
I saw Enzo G. Castellari's Il Giorno del Cobra at the cinema once and vaguely remember quite liking it. That's why I bought the blu-ray. But having watched it again after three decades (!), I realized that it's not as good as I thought. Unlike other Castellari's action-packed police thrillers, this one plays more like a detective drama with very little tension.

Tobruk (First viewing on Spanish BD-R) - 8/10
I have watched and liked this one since the home video days. Got the US Universal DVD-R several years ago and bought the Spanish BD, which turned out to be a BD-R. One of my favorite WWII men-on-a-mission films. For a 1967 production, the battle scenes during the climax are top notch. The only thing I'm not comfortable with in this film is listening to George Peppard's stilted English accent.
