Broken Blossoms UPDATED

Post by Daniel_Rudolph »

The US and UK versions seem to be different movies. The Alpha video release is the 1919 original and the Renown is the 1936 remake.

Good call. However, on checking it looks like Alpha have actually released both versions. As far as I can tell, the 1936 UK remake isn't in the public domain but as usual such trivialities don't stop Alpha. Both their DVDs are vanilla and to differentiate them on this site they'd need the timings, an Amazon link and a note adding. The ASINs for the UK remake are B004PYHHI0 (Renown) and B0025X4PE2 (Alpha).

I'm surprised there's no entry yet for D.W. Griffith's silent classic. As no BD is forthcoming, it's time I picked up Kino's disc. Of course, me finally buying it will guarantee an immediate BD release!

Silent Era has a list of the five most significant releases of the 1919 version.

Updated the 1936 listing with the Amazon links. Looking to add the 1919 listing soon.
