The runtime may suggest that these are NTSC to PAL transfers. Was there any ghosting in the image during playback?

I suspect you're right, the picture quality isn't great. The screen on my Mac doesn't really show noticeable ghosting, I compared with another one that we thought was NTSC-PAL, Wagon Master (also a Universal release), and that has a similar picture quality but not really noticeable ghosting. Or perhaps I'm just not very good at noticing! They both have a bit of combing on fast-forward.
